Your Past is a Stepping Stone

Out of fear, we cling to our old identities, old dreams, and old selves.

As if the old stuff isn’t enough, we add more.

We add new stuff.

New information, new connections, new sources of income, new titles, new habits, and on and on.

Almost every day.

Now we’re in conflict. We’re holding 2 things at the same time: The old ones and the new ones.

Isn’t it obvious that we’ve maxed out? It is. But we’re in denial.

Because we think that “adding” is the norm.

It’s even our metric for growth.

If we’re not adding, then we’re dying.

It’s probably true to some extent. Growth requires addition.

The problem is, as we add more, we don’t let go of the old.

Letting go of something means creating a new space for beginning.

The beginning of becoming.

Into new versions of ourselves.

To let go is to become new.
