This is an experiment on a free day. Let’s call this “Dream Day”.
Forget everything and just focus on working on your dreams (whatever that dream is).
Forget the news. Forget your favorite TV series. Forget your debts and the awful things you did when you’re drunk, maybe horny.
Forget life outside yourself.
(If you have a 9-5 job and can’t take a day off, then wake up early. Use the early morning hours.)
Maybe you want to build a business. Or maybe a creative endeavor, or a side project, or anything you love. Call it passion or purpose or calling, whatever seems right to you.
Whatever your dream, block the first hour(s) of your day for it.
At least one hour, work on it.
If you want to be a great singer, start with your favorite song. Sing even the first verse. If you want to write a book, then start writing anything. Write anything you think. Even one sentence will do.
Then keep going if it feels good.
Block social media or any forms of distraction. Block them for 24 hours. If it helps, keep your phone away.
Majority of your time should be spent working on the things that matter to you.
Don’t engage in trivial conversations. Only engage when it’s relevant to your dream.
If you’re living with your parents, don’t talk to them. But you can write a note. Say something like, “I will not talk to anyone for a day, please respect. I’m serious. This is an experiment. I love you all.”
This is for your roommates: “I will not talk to anyone because I’m experimenting. I’m a scientist and a secret agent. I’m here to save you, but I’m not Jesus Christ.”
For your spouse: Explain your experiment the day before. Explain you’ll be on a different planet. Don’t forget to smile. 🙂 What about the kids? Tell your spouse to look after them. Just for a day, please!
If anything fails, go visit a cabin in the woods or any remote area where you can be alone. I’ve never done it, but maybe that will work for you.
After “dream day” is finished, resume your daily life.
See the difference? You’ve done so much in a day. Whether you realize it or not, you’ve taken a step closer to your dream.
If you do this experiment once a week, you have 48 days dedicated to your dreams in a year.
48 days.
